DVD Tuesdays – January 12, 2010

Oscar’s front-runner, a satire,  an unfortunate remake and another comedy about cons make up the DVD releases for Tuesday January 12, 2010.

The Hurt Locker – The movie everyone’s been talking about, starring Jeremy Renner, Guy Pearce and Ralph Fiennes.  The Golden Globe nominee that’s a front-runner for a Best Picture Oscar. Will it live up to the hype?

In the Loop –  James Gandolfini stars in this hilarious fast-talking intercontinental satire about how all it takes to get the Western World to declare war on the Middle East is one mid-level paper-pusher’s poorly stated opinion. Steve Coogan turns up midway through as a man upset about a crumbling wall, and is genius.

Fame – This updated version of the 1980 movie and 1982 TV series didn’t exactly knock it out of the park, but you have to hand it to them for reuniting Cheers co-stars Kelsey Grammer and Bebe Neuwirth as teachers at a performing arts school.

The Brothers Bloom – Rachel Weisz, Adrien Brody and Mark Ruffalo star in this action movie about the best con-men in the world doing the last big con.
