The dvd releases for this week, February 2, 2010, offer lots of drama and lovers with zombie comedy thrown in for variety.
Amelia – This biopic stars Hilary Swank as the pilot Amelia Earhart in the early stages of her career and how she is chosen to be the first female pilot to attempt the daring nonstop flight across the Atlantic Ocean. Also staring Richard Gere and Ewan McGregor.
Love Happens – A romantic drama staring Aaron Eckhart and Jennifer Aniston. He is a widower who writes a book about grieving that turns him into a self-help phenomenon. Reinvented as a charismatic guru, he falls for a woman at one of his seminars and is forced to confront the fact that he hasn’t dealt with his own loss.
New York, I Love You – Similar to 2006′s Paris, Je t’aime, 12 love stories in and about New York. A collaboration of storytelling from some of today’s most imaginative filmmakers and featuring an all-star cast really! There are too many stars to mention. Toronto has done a similar work called Toronto Stories, but it was much darker.
Zombieland – This horror comedy starring Woody Harelson focuses on two men who have found a way to survive a world overrun by zombies. One is a big wuss the other is an AK-toting, zombie-slaying’ bad ass whose single determination is to get the last Twinkie on earth. As they join forces with Wichita and Little Rock, who have also found unique ways to survive the zombie mayhem, they will have to determine which is worse: relying on each other or succumbing to the zombies.
