Becel “Heart” Short Film and Contest

Toronto Film Scene is honoured to present a contest in support of Becel’s Love Your Heart campaign. Reuniting the crew from Away From Her, a prominent Canadian director has created a short film called simply Heart which will premiere on Sunday, March 7th during the Academy Awards broadcast and will be seen by millions.

The film is described as “beautiful and poignant” designed to inspire women of all ages to take good care of their hearts. The film reunites producers Jenniger Weiss and Simone Urdl (Chloe, Adoration, Redacted) and Director of Photography Luc Montpellier (Away From Her, FLASHPOINT, Cairo Time) all alumnae of the 2008 Oscar®-nominated Away From Her.

In celebration of this film — and of the campaign to increase heart health awareness — Toronto Film Scene is pleased to provide three scarves to give away. To enter the contest, you need to send an email to contests@theTFS.ca with the words “I Love My Heart” in the title and tell us about a movie that touched your heart. The contest closes at noon on Thursday, March 4th and the randomly selected winners will receive one of three scarves (designs pictured below) from The Heart Truth™ campaign — exclusive scarves that will remind women all over Canada to look after their hearts. You must be Canadian to enter.

Last, and most importantly, go to Becel’s Love Your Heart Facebook page and become a fan. For every person who joins their page, Becel will donate $1 to the Heart & Stroke Foundation. Now that’s a good cause!

UPDATE March 2, 2010: This morning Sarah Polley released a statement stripping her name from the short film Heart. Polley said in her statement, “In December 2009, I made a film to be aired during the Academy Awards that I believed was to promote the Heart and Stroke Foundation. When I agreed to make this film (The Heart), I was thrilled, as I was proud to be associated with the work of this incredible organization. However, I have since learned that my film is also being used to promote a product. Regretfully, I am forced to remove my name from the film and disassociate myself from it. I have never actively promoted any corporate brand, and cannot do so now.” No response from the Heart and Stroke Foundation’s office has been received, however, TFS will continue to update. We have decided to continue with the contest noted above as we believe heart health is of the utmost importance, however, respect Ms. Polley’s decision to not officially endorse a product with her work. Amendments have been made to this post to reflect this.
