The 5th annual Toronto Alternative Arts and Fashion Week (known cleverly as “[FAT]“) kicks off April 21st and runs events at various locations all over town until April 25th. While the festival’s focus is primarily on fashion, there is plenty of other awesome art-related stuff going on, including short films / videos / photography for the image-lovers of the world. Tonight’s opening night features the screening of local filmmakers Kyle Kofsky and Graeme Mislan’s short film A Love Story.
This year, the festival is holding a special focus on the Netherlands, and welcomes visiting Dutch artists like Bogomir Doringer, Janieta Eyre, Zorica Vasic, and Patrizia Dona. Dona presents her photo / video installation Vitrines on the second night of the festival (April 22nd).
Film and video makers from all over the world have descended upon [FAT] this year: From Vancouver, Mexico City, London (UK), Halifax, Jamaica, and elsewhere. This is your chance to see some amazing international film and video work in the context and party atmosphere of the hip fashion crowd. Perhaps most fitting for a fashion festival is the closing night party’s screening of Montreal artist Owen Eric Wood‘s 2008 video The Clothes Make The Man. Indeed, they do.
