Lots of talk these days about the Essential 100 and Essential Cinema. To complement both their list and their exhibition, TIFF is screening many of the films on their Essential 100 list.

Beginning this week they’re starting with a bang and presenting Videodrome on the big screen, introduced by David Cronenberg himself at 9:15 on Thursday, September 23 and 9:30 on Friday, September 24. Don’t miss this opportunity to see Mr. Cronenberg talking about one of his most influential — and chillingly accurate — works. Tickets are $18.75 regular and $15.00 for students/seniors.

On Tuesday, September 28 and Wednesday, September 29 at 8:00pm respectively, TIFF Bell Lightbox will be screening The Passion of Joan of Arc accompanied by Richard Einhorn’s Voices of Light providing a score derived from the inspirational film. Tickets are $50.00 regular and $40.00 for students/seniors.

Continuing the screenings of these influential films are L’Aventura and   Citizen Kane beginning September 23 and Breathless beginning September 30.   Tickets for these screenings are $12.00 regular, $9.50 for students/seniors and $8.50 for children and youth.

Don’t miss the opportunity to experience these films as they were originally intended, in the dark on the big screen. Check the TIFF Bell Lightbox screening schedule for showtimes.
