With the successful pairing of five apprentices to five master filmmaker mentors, Documentary Organization of Canada (DOC) and CBC’s documentary are seeking applications for the next round of submissions. Giving Voice: Filmmakers Working with Filmmakers is a unique apprenticeship program that puts documentary professionals looking to move further in their careers together with established doc filmmaking masters.
Giving Voice is a four month initiative that involves creative collaboration, the exchange of ideas and talents, and seeks to broaden the spectrum of Canadian documentary filmmaking. The next deadline for submissions is June 11, 2012. I know that seems like a long time away, but don’t delay! Selected apprentices will work on the projects their mentors currently haveunderway.
For mentorship and apprenticeship eligibility criteria, as well as application forms, please check out the DOC website. The program certainly benefits both mentor and apprentice and strengthens the Canadian documentary community as a whole, but I am most keen to see the long-term benefit for the rest of us who simply enjoy watching a great Canadian doc.
