TAIS and NFB present: Animation Blowout!

Toronto Animated Image Society (TAIS) and National Film Board (NFB) join hands for a long weekend Animation Blowout running Friday, June 1 through to Monday, June 4, 2012.  A full program is available on the NFB website, but I’ve provided a wee synopsis for you here, since we’re friends.

Kicking off Friday is the TAIS showcase and Anijam 2012, a compilation of 10-second animations revolving around technical difficulties. Great theme, my mind is reeling with the possibilities. This program is a juried event starting at 7:00 pm. Saturday is NFB’s time to shine, showcasing the best of 50 years of animated achievements, beginning at 7:00 pm. An Animation Blowout just wouldn’t be fair without a kiddie component, so Sunday, June 3 boasts an animation workshop just for kids. Participants, under the guidance of TAIS and NFB staff, are able to create their own animations using origami.

The weekend ends on a more intimate note, with a presentation by special guest Iain Gardner on Monday, June 4 at 7:00 pm. Gardner, animation filmmaker and last year’s winner of Best Animation at CFC Worldwide Shorts Film Festival, facilitates discussion about his own style, themes and approach to filmmaking. Sounds like the makings of a pretty kick ass weekend to me!

The Blowout’s going down at NFB Mediatheque (150 John St). For more details you can check out TAIS or NFB websites.
