Matthew Lillard’s (Scream, Scooby Doo) directorial debut, Fat Kid Rules the World, takes great heights at the Open Roof Film Festival on Thursday, July 5, 2012. Based on the novel by K.L. Going, the film stars Jacob Wysocki (Terri) as Troy, an overweight, suicidal teenager whose life takes a turn when Marcus (Matt O’Leary, Brick) interrupts his attempted suicide. A bit troubled himself, Marcus opens up to Troy a new world of punk rock music, friendship and confidence. Finely wrapped in a comedy blanket, Fat Kid Rules the World is also the emotional give and take of a true friendship and the bond that builds when paths cross and lives collide.
Toronto Film Scene reviewed Fat Kid Rules the World when the film had its Canadian Premiere at the TIFF Next Wave Film Festival in May of 2012. You can purchase tickets or check out the trailer here.
The Open Roof Film Festival is a not-for profit outdoor event celebrating music, film, local talent, independent artists and the good weather summer brings. All screenings are at the Amsterdam Brewery at 21 Bathurst Street. Events run all summer, so check its schedule for more information.
