Images Festival and LIFT celebrate anniversaries on Ward’s Island

Images Festival and Liaison of Independent Filmmakers of Toronto (LIFT) are holding a joint celebration of their respective 25th and 30th anniversaries.  On Saturday, July 28, 2012, starting a 3:00 pm, Ward’s Island Club House (on Ward’s Island of course) hosts an afternoon picnic and an evening featuring guest appearances by fun, drinks, food and a special sunset screening.

There is certainly reason for a joyous celebration as Images Festival and LIFT both serve to promote and improve independent film. For 30 years, LIFT has provided young filmmakers with affordable access to education and tools, while Images Festival presents an annual showcase of the most engaging, forward-thinking work out there.

In 2002, Images Festival and LIFT worked with two filmmakers to create the Tom Berner Award for individuals who, like Tom Berner, go above and beyond to support the development of independent film in the community. This year’s winner is Milada Kovacova, and the 16 mm films of past winners will show at the celebration’s dusk screening.

The party will go from 3:00 pm until 10:30 pm. Admission is  free, but the ferry to get to and from the island is $7. So come join LIFT and Images on Saturday, June 28, 2012 at   Ward’s Island Clubhouse.

Daniel is a graduate of the University of Guelph’s theatre studies program. Having performed Shakespeare in drag once, Daniel attempts to sound unique and mysteriously cool when speaking with woman in bars. He then proceeds to take over the dance floor, performing a rendition of Thom Yorke’s dancing in Radiohead’s Lotus Flower video as performed by a geriatric. Who is suffering. A lot apparently. He is also allergic to cats, the villainous harbingers of apocalypse and the odour of kitty litter – which is a stupid name for a toilet.
