Today on the Scene: screenings and film fun for Thursday, August 16, 2012

Today is a great day for film lovers in the city — there’s almost too much going on, so film fans will have some hard choices to make. Here’s what’s happening today on the Scene for Thursday, August 16, 2012.

Summer Shorts by Robert Bruce Music is on tonight at 9:00 pm at Trinity St. Paul’s United Church. Bruce has scored some great music for four classic comedy shorts, so check out this lovely summer event.

Over at TIFF Bell Lightbox there’s the usual selection of great run of engagement movies, like First Position, Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry and Oslo August 31st, but there’s also the French New Wave classic Weekend by Goddard, introduced by Piers Handling tonight at 6:30 pm. Then for comic book lovers, X-Men is screening at 9:00 pm.

The second last Open Roof Festival event is on tonight with Moonrise Kingdom and musical guest Dusted at 7:30 pm at the Amsterdam Brewery. This screening is sold out, but there will be tickets available at the door. So if you didn’t win them from us, get there early because this screening is in high demand!

Last, but not least, there’s Searching for Sugar Man on at 6:30 pm and Paul Williams Still Alive on at 9:00 pm at The Bloor.

Have fun film fans!

Like most people who write for the web, I’ve been obsessed with movies since I was very young. My favourite movies are The Social Network, Easy A and Garden State, but I try to spend my time broadening my film horizons. I’m the Publisher of Toronto Film Scene and I Heart Movies, and in my “spare” time, I’m a web designer and strategist. (Gotta support my movie habit somehow…)
