Toronto’s Metro Theatre to transform into Projection Booth Metro on August 24, 2012

In case you hadn’t already heard, Toronto’s last porno theatre, the Metro, is getting a makeover. The same people who transformed the old Gerrard Cinema into the Projection Booth, are giving a similar treatment to another of Toronto’s wonderful old movie palaces.

The Metro originally opened in 1939, but for many years now it’s been the city’s only porn palace. Starting this Friday, August 24, 2012, the new owners will replace the evening porn with a slate of art, independent and foreign films, with four nightly screenings in the facility’s two 300-seat theatres (pornos will continue during the day, for the time being).

A big clean up of the theatre has been underway. They’ve installed some new digital projectors, will be replacing seats and remaking the snack counter. But fear not; the Metro will still retain all of its wonderful historic elements.

The new and improved Projection Booth Metro is located at 677 Bloor Street West (Christie is the nearest subway station). For all the details, check out their website, or their Facebook page.
