Today on the Scene: screenings and film fun for Sunday, September 2, 2012

Single tickets for TIFF are on sale as of 10:00 am this morning. If you were smart and bought a package, you probably aren’t standing in a line, on the phone, or refreshing your browser (or all three at the same time). In that case, you have time for a movie today. Here’s what’s happening today on the scene for Sunday, September 2, 2012.

If nothing at your local cinema is tickling your fancy, head to the TIFF Bell Lightbox for a more eclectic selection. First Position, Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry, Compliance, and Beasts of the Southern Wild are all really good options. At 3:00 pm and 8:00 pm, you can catch Jaws in all of its big screen glory. If you feel like brushing up on your French today, the Summer of France series is offering Elevator to the Gallows at 3:30 pm and Playtime at 7:00 pm.

The Bloor Hot Docs Cinema has a pretty cool line-up today. At 12:45 pm, it is Burden of Dreams, about Werner Herzog’s process while filming Fitzcarraldo. Then, at 3:00 pm, you can actually watch Fitzcarraldo for a nice double bill. The emotional war documentary In My Mother’s Arms is playing at 6:30 pm. To close the night, at 9:00 pm, check out Sushi: The Global Catch.

That’s all for today, folks. It’s probably a good thing because now you have time to stock up on energy drinks, granola bars, and sleep before TIFF madness begins.
