It’s time again for the Toronto Palestine Film Festival, a showcase for Palestinian culture and film. Now in its fifth year, the festival begins this Saturday, September 29 and runs until October 7, 2012.
This year’s programme offers many World and Canadian premieres of everything from documentary to drama. Opening night features the Canadian premiere of The War Around Us, the award-winning documentary from Abdallah Omeish (you can check out the trailer below), and the festival closes with Susan Youssef’s Habibi, based on the Arabic folkloric version of Romeo and Juliet.
One of this year’s highlights is the special programming of Arab World Perspectives, focusing on Egypt with the award-winning Microphone by Ahmad Abdalla, capturing the vibrant arts scene of that city. Other, non-film events include a traditional Palestinian brunch, and a concert featuring Marcel Khalifé and the Al Mayadine Ensemble.
Where: Various venues. Please check individual screenings for details.
When: Saturday, September 29 to Sunday, October 7, 2012
