If you aren’t sleeping the day away in preparation for Nuit Blanche tonight, go see some movies. Here is what’s happening today on the Scene for Saturday, September 29, 2012.
Lots of quirky things happening at the TIFF Bell Lightbox today, as part of Culture Days and Nuit Blanche. At 11:30 am, take part in three family-friendly activities – Be in the Scene (green screen fun!), Buttonography (design your own buttons!), and Stop Motion Animation. Nuit Blanche at TIFF starts at 7:00 pm, with Cent une tueries de zombies, Like/Comment/Subscribe, and Strange Love/Strange Lives. And in between all of the excitement, you can still catch your standard flicks. Beasts of the Southern Wild, Tabu, Show Stopper: The Theatrical Life of Garth Drabinsky, Rebelle, Laurence Anyways, and The Queen of Versailles all have showtimes throughout the day.
The Bloor Hot Docs Cinema has four screenings today. At 1:00 pm, check out the music documentary Inni. The Toronto Palestine Film Festival opening night is at 6:30 pm. After a successful run at Hot Docs, the Bloor welcomes back Wayne White with his film, Beauty is Embarrassing at 9:45 pm. And in partner with JFL 42, Eddie Murphy Raw screens at 11:45 pm.
If you want to introduce your kids to the original, Cineplex’s Family Favourites series is showing The Karate Kid this morning at 11:00 am at select Cineplex locations.
Feeling charitable and love Back to the Future? Head to the Revue Cinema today at 4:00 pm for a screening of the classic sci-fi comedy, with all proceeds going to Horizon Arts Camp. The Revue is also participating in Nuit Blanche, with Pixel Paint the Night, beginning at 7:00 pm.
At Camera Bar, the cult classic The Lost Boys will be screening at 3:00 pm. I don’t know about you guys, but this is an offer that is hard to pass up.
For an indie treat, the Royal Cinema has Eddie: The Sleepwalking Cannibal at 9:30 pm. And for all you film noir lovers, I Wake Up Screaming screens at 8:00 pm at Dominion on Queen.
As always, the Projection Booth East has a day full of unique programming. At 3:30 pm, Craigslist Joe continues its Toronto run. Legend of a Warrior, a documentary that premiered at Hot Docs this past spring, screens at 5:00 pm. And if you’re curious about Serbian film, the Serbian Film Festival Screening Series beings at 7:00 pm.
With tons of new releases this weekend, and film events happening during Nuit Blanche, there is unending opportunity to see something awesome. And when you finally wake up tomorrow from all the adventure, check back with us for Sunday’s happenings on the Toronto film scene.
