It’s apparently going to be a week of rain and cold. Brrrrr. Time to bundle up, get a hot drink, and plant yourself in the shelter of one of Toronto’s many cinemas. They’re wind and rain proof, don’t you know. A movie is the perfect antidote to that feeling of impending doom brought on by the nearing end of daylight savings time and here’s what’s happening today on the Scene for Monday, October 29, 2012.
TIFF Bell Lightbox continues to host Samsara, Dial M for Murder and Diana Vreeland: The Eye Has to Travel with multiple screening times throughout the day. Also on tap, at 7:00 pm, is a special screening of Love at First Bite, Stan Dragoti’s 1979 disco era Dracula spoof starring George Hamilton (who will make an appearance at the screening).
The Bloor Hot Docs Cinema offers up You’ve Been Trumped, a David and Goliath story chronicling Donald Trump’s attempt to turn Scotland into a golf course, at 6:45 pm, and the third in Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy, The Dark Knight Rises, at 9:00 pm.
The Revue Theatre has Killer Joe at 7:00 pm and The Dark Knight Rises at 9:00 pm.
The Fox Theatre is screening Trouble with the Curve at 7:00 pm and Lawless at 9:15 pm.
Projection Booth East hosts the second annual Python-a-thon all week with The Life of Brian at 4:00 and 9:00 pm and Monty Python and the Holy Grail at 2:30 and 7:30 pm. Projection Booth Metro also has Beauty is Embarrassing at 9:30 pm and Marina Abramovic: The Artist is Present at 10:00 pm.
And to get you in the spooky Halloween mood, it’s a screening of F.W. Murnau’s 1926 silent era classic, Faust, with live musical accompaniment from composer Robert Bruce at Trinity – St. Paul’s United Church at 7:30 pm. Costumes are encouraged.
