TIFF Bell Lightbox celebrates the end of the world with Countdown to Armageddon series

A scene from Armageddon

The world is (allegedly) going to end on December 21 of this year ““ at least that’s what the Mayans think. We’ll have to see about that.

In celebration of what might be our last week on Earth, TIFF Bell Lightbox is bringing us the Countdown to Armageddon series consisting of every good apocalyptic and post- apocalyptic movie they could find.

Between Friday, December 14 and Friday, December 21, 2012 you can catch everything from Dr. Stranglove to Logan’s Run to Melancholia to Armageddon (of course). In addition to these big, top-of-mind blockbusters, you can also catch lesser known end-of-the-world movies such as Zardoz (Sean Connery in a loincloth), The Quiet Earth (last man on Earth styles), and Last Night (a Canadian apocalypse movie set in Toronto).

In short, for a cinephile there’s no better way to end the world than by watching it end on screen. Plus, the Mayans might be wrong in which case you got bonus life AND great movies. Awesome!

Like most people who write for the web, I've been obsessed with movies since I was very young. My favourite movies are The Social Network, Easy A and Garden State, but I try to spend my time broadening my film horizons. I'm the Publisher of Toronto Film Scene, and in my "spare" time, I'm a web designer and strategist. (Gotta support my movie habit somehow...)
