Benjamin is a short film that confronts the themes of grief and surrogacy for two couples caught in an impossible dilemma. The film deals with difficult yet realistic themes. Directed by Sherren Lee, a recent graduate of the Canadian Film Centre’s Director’s Lab Program, the short will be having its World Premiere in the Short Cuts Programme 7 at the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival.

Benjamin is an emotional yet very human story that looks at the difficulty that is faced in relationships and family. Audiences will find the themes of LGBTQ couples and fertility as an element of the film that transcends the traditional genre of a family drama. Lee has a way of encapsulating a complex issue into a short amount of time and leaving a lasting impression on the audience.

In Benjamin, Lee proves that shorts of this nature can convey a strong message of high quality, and it leaves audiences with a new and insightful perspective on the issues that come along with having a family and establishing loving relationships.
