Revealing the unique wealth of talent emerging in Toronto every year, New Toronto Works is looking for something extra special to celebrate 20 years of creative arts. Early last month saw the announcement of the inaugural Monsters & Martians Science Fiction Film Festival. The festival, having a uniquely apt name, will be devoted to showcasing Science Fiction films, shorts, and docs from filmmakers all over the world. The Canadian Film Centre (CFC) has two announcements to make. First, the three-year-old CFC Telefilm Features Comedy Lab is no more (aww). However, it will be replaced by the CFC Telefilm Feature Comedy Exchange (yay!), in collaboration with Just for Laughs. The program exists to increase exposure and develop talent of Canada’s comedic filmmakers, aiming to provide business and promotional opportunities, while helping to showcase Canadian work on an international scale. Now that the Toronto After Dark Summer Screenings are over, it’s time to turn our attention to the main event: the seventh annual Toronto After Dark Film Festival, running October 18-26, 2012. The deadline to submit film details is this Friday, July 20, 2012. Users of Withoutabox have the deadline extended by a week, until Friday, July 27, 2012.
