Cineplex
This month, Cineplex started a fabulous new Classic Film Series, that will run over the next year. At various Cineplex theatres around the city (actually, all across the country) they’ll be screening beloved movie classics on the big screen for only $5 a pop. Films range from musicals and horrors, to epic dramas and hard-boiled detective films. Each will screen twice during the month it’s being presented – on a Wednesday evening and a Sunday afternoon....
YAY! Toronto fans of Canadian, foreign, and independent film received some very good news this week. The Carlton Cinema, closed by Cineplex just last December, has been purchased by Magic Lantern Theatres (the company which operates the existing three Rainbow cinemas in Toronto). It’s scheduled to re-open in June of this year and the new owners say they’ll maintain the same type of programming – ‘art and alternative films, documentaries, special screenings and film festivals’. They will also perform a retrofit or refurbishment of the existing facility. All I can say to that is, we should thank our lucky stars....
