The 24th Annual Images Festival hits Toronto March 31- April 9, 2011. Images is the largest running festival in North America showcasing the newest innovations in experimental and independent moving image art. Images presents more than film, it is a forum for media artists to present projects on and off screen, and includes live performances and new media installations and projects displayed in venues across downtown Toronto. A new venue this year, the AGO’s Jackman Hall, joins the list of returning spaces like Toronto Underground Cinema, Polish Combatant’s Hall, The Music Gallery, and Workman Arts....
Early Monthly Segments is an avant-garde film screening series held at the Gladstone Hotel‘s Art Bar once monthly, and this March 16th marks their one-year anniversary. In celebration, they’re showing films by American experimental filmmaker Robert Beavers, from whose work the screening series takes its name. Screening experimental films in a salon-like setting is definitely a refreshing alternative to the darkness and solemnity of the dark movie theatre, and lively discussions usually follow the films (snacks and drinks are available to order from the Art Bar’s kitchen).
