Review: The Switch
We’ve entered an age where women who want biological children do not have to wait to find Mr. Right; she can utilize a sperm donor, as some celebrities and recent movie characters (see The Back-up Plan) have selected. The Switch centres on a mishap that “could” occur when choosing this option.
Review: The Bounty Hunter
In the always formulaic world of romantic comedies, there are a few sub-genres that I find particularly satisfying. At the top of that list is the adventure / whodunit rom-com, in which the star crossed protagonists fall in love while solving a usually convoluted mystery involving a big drug deal, police corruption, stolen jewels, or something else that involves mild danger and some sneaking around in a shipyard or warehouse. Romancing the Stone is a good example. Goldie Hawn starred in a lot of these as well (Foul Play with Chevy Chase, Bird on a Wire with Mel Gibson).
The Bounty Hunter is precisely this type of film. Just, unfortunately, not a very good one. Jennifer Aniston plays another in a long line obsessive, ambitious, shiny-haired, tightly wound A-type personalities which are such a terrific romantic comedy foil for the drunk, ruggedly handsome tough guy whose life is a mess.
