Review: Burlesque
When I saw the trailer for Burlesque months ago, my first thought was “oh my god, could this be the next Showgirls?” Certainly, the trailer made the setup seem similar enough. From its opening sequences, in which we see Christina Aguilera’s Ali quitting her dead end waitressing job in Nowheresville, Iowa, putting on her white platforms and buying a one way ticket to L.A., Burlesque sets up a pretty obvious premise: small town girl with stars in her eyes comes to the big city to make it big.
